Cassims International Conference on Textile Testing 2015-

A review of Chinese regulations and testing standards, and trends in global textile testing.

Changes in testing and test standards are often driven by market demands and advances in technology. Laws and Regulations form the backbone of a country and make certain that the country runs safe and healthy. Standards for product testing allow legislators with a way to implement and maintain these laws and regulations. This conference will focus on laws & regulations in China (the fastest growing apparel market in the world) its ramifications to textile and apparel manufacturers in Sri Lanka and international brands. It will also cover increasingly significant trends in global quality control demands for textile and apparel. Valuable information for your business, research and quality programs.

TOPICS OF PRESENTATION

1. Using Standards to communicate Throughout the supply chain.
Abstract: In a global economy, standards allow users to objectively measure a products performance within the supply chain and to the end user. These standards are often different depending on where the product will be used. We provide a brief overview of how and why it is important to follow the correct trends.

2. Compliance to Chinese Standards for Textiles and Garments to enter the China Market.
Abstract: China is becoming the world's biggest market for textile and apparel. It's standards and regulations are popular among the retailers and manufactures doing business in China. Ms. Zheng Yuying, an expert will provide this keynote lecture about the Chinese standards for the textile industry.

3. The Legal Requirements for Garment Labeling in the Chinese Market.
Abstract: Care labels and fiber content claims are a direct way for consumers to know about clothing. Different countries may have different laws and regulations regarding these claims for the market. Ms. Zheng Yuying will lecture on this topic and provide a detailed introduction of the correct usages for care labeling and fiber content claims in the China market.

4. Comfort Measurement : Fabric Touch Testing.
Abstract: The feel of a fabric (called fabric hand) is a personal subjective impression that has a strong motivating (or de-motivating) effect on a decision to purchase. Traditionally, fabric hand has been only measured by subjective expert panels. John Crocker of SDL Atlas will lecture on a new instrumental approach for hand measurement that will correlate with human perception. He will also offer some case studies to show you how the industry use the FTT for their R&D and quality control.

5. Performance Textile Testing.
Abstract: The apparel market is complex and requires careful testing of claims. The European Committee on Standardization, Technical Committee on Textiles (CEN/TC248) developed and published a Technical Report on the Thermoregulatory Properties of apparel and a scheme for acceptable grading. This has opened a window to look into the performance textile testing around the world. This topic will discuss the requirements for three technical reports/standards which are popular among today's apparel market.

6. Synthetic-spandex blends: what testing might tell you.
Abstract: In recent years, Elastane blends, commonly known as Spandex or Lycra, have become a mainstay of the apparel industry. They are light weight, breathable, and form fitting, properties that are sought after by today’s performance focused customer. However, improper processing of Elastane blends can cause nightmarish colorfastness issues throughout the production process and the products lifespan. John Crocker will discuss some of the history of Elastane and its processing aggravations along with information on some of the colorfastness issues that are being seen in the market and the testing industry with these blends.

7. Flammability Testing
Abstract: Flammability testing is significant as it is mentioned in many laws and regulations and in different countries. Which of these flammability testing are related to your product? This topic we will bring up some conventional flammability testing and introduce some important standard updates
